Newburyport Five Cents Savings Bank
63 State Street Newburyport, MA
Due to a lack of office and conference room space, the Newburyport Five-Cents Savings Bank sought to expand their facilities on an adjacent parcel of land. The final design tackled the difficulties of this tight urban site, presence of an existing historic building that required replication, and the desire for the bank to build upon the open and airy feeling of their existing 1980’s addition. The resulting building features a formal street façade consisting of Federalist and Georgian architectural styles, with a contemporary rear that opens through two curved glass walls onto a landscaped courtyard. Nautical design motives were also incorporated throughout the project to reflect the banks history, their logo and the history of the surrounding town. Brian Hromadka, AIA served as designer and assistant project manager while working with Woodman Associates Architects of Newburyport, MA. Construction was completed in 2007.
